My Reading Style & Decks

My aim is to help you find answers to your questions or get a different perspective on something by enabling you through the cards to connect with your intuition and your own deep inner wisdom. I do not do fortune-telling, predictions or do anything that could be called working with ‘spirits’. I currently work mainly with The Wildwood Tarot Deck, but also The Textured Tarot and The Way of the Panda Tarot. For more details on each of them, click on the name and it will take you to the relevant website. If you have a particular preference, please let me know at the time of booking.

Approach & Ethics

As a member of the Tarot Association of the British Isles (https://tabi.org.uk/about-us/aims-and-ethics/) I adhere to their Code of Ethics which is incorporated into my approach below:

  • A welcoming, empathic and inclusive environment – If for any reason a client feels I have not created this type of environment, I encourage them to let me know so I can understand what I need to do differently.
  • Tarot and Cultural/Social Sensitivity – I recognise that Tarot has a long and complicated history that has not always been mindful of issues around cultural appropriation and prejudice. In particular, the stereotyping of the Romani people who have been persecuted at times for practising Tarot Reading, amongst other things. Also, some decks encourage the use of beliefs and other religious symbolism without overtly demonstrating respect for the cultures and systems these come from. Older decks also tend to be rooted in social values such as patriarchy. For this reason I prefer to work with modern decks that have been created to be inclusive and/or to have social and environmental issues as part of their approach.
  • Curiosity – I am always learning and love to learn from my clients. To me our sessions are very much a conversation between us.
  • Empowerment – I aim to help you take charge of your own life. Sessions are interactive and not about me presenting the cards to you. For this reason, and because I don’t claim to be psychic, I do not do fortune-telling. If the question or issue you bring to the session is of a fortune-telling nature, I will help you rephrase it into something that brings you into a focus on the present and what you can do.
  • Playfulness – I enjoy having a playful approach and using humour during a session when appropriate as I believe we are often our most creative when we are relaxed. Of course if the client or the subject matter is serious then I adapt my approach accordingly.
  • Confidentiality – Readings are in confidence between you, the client and me, your guide. If I need to take notes for my own professional development purposes, I will do this with no indication of who they relate to. If the reading is conducted in writing online, I will permanently delete all messages on my system once we have completed our ‘session’.
  • Boundaries – My role is to act as a guide to help you use your intuition to move forwards in something. If I see that you would benefit from therapy, legal advice or help from another qualified professional, I will tell you and where possible, offer recommendations on how to find someone.
  • Client-focused – Readings cannot be given about anyone other than you, the client, and questions relating to others (e.g. third parties, such as partners, family members, colleagues, etc.) will be re-phrased or declined.
  • Integrity – If at any time I feel unable to complete a session, I will be honest and tell you.
  • Self-awareness – As I have chronic illness and energy limitations that are unpredictable, I may decide to reschedule a session if I feel unable to offer you the level of service you should expect. I will give as much notice as possible and if of course you would rather cancel, I will refund any money you have already paid for that session.
  • Consent for under 18 year olds – Readings will not knowingly be given to clients aged under 18 years without permission from their parent or guardian.
  • Legal Disclaimer – As required by law, all readings are provided for entertainment only. All and any information is given as guidance only and is subject to your own personal interpretation. Any decisions and/or choices you make based on this guidance remain your sole personal and legal responsibility.

How Tarot Reading sessions work via Zoom

I believe that you, the client, will gain the most value from an interactive reading which allows you to share your reactions to the cards drawn. Below I explain how this works:

1. Ideally, please send me a question beforehand you would like the reading to focus on. One that can’t simply be answered by Yes/No or a factual response. Or it can be a situation or idea you would like to explore. It must relate to you and not a third person. If you’re unable to send it beforehand don’t worry, it’s just that it gives me some time to decide on how to work with the cards.

2. For the session, please have with you something on which you can receive photographs of the cards to look at as I present them to you. Ideally via WhatsApp or similar messaging service. This will be easier than me holding the cards up to the screen.

3. Format of session – After the initial introductions, I will explain the approach we are using in the session and then draw the first card. I will ask some questions to help you connect your question/situation to what’s in the card, e.g. what stands out to you from this card? Where it may be useful I will bring in my own knowledge and interpretations. Once we have worked through all the cards, we will summarise the insights you have gained and conclude.

3. After the session I will send a follow up message with a summary of the cards, inviting feedback and if you have any final questions we can address them then.

4. If you would like more support from me around your reading, this may be provided at my discretion. If you are a paying client, I will agree with you any additional fee.

How Tarot Reading sessions work via email or messaging

I believe that you, the client, will gain the most value from an interactive reading which allows you to share your reactions to the cards drawn. Below I explain how this works:

1. Please send me a question you would like the reading to focus on. One that can’t simply be answered by Yes/No or a factual response. It must also relate to you and not a third person.

2. I will acknowledge receipt and reply with a 2-3 card spread within 24 hours. This will include a photograph of the cards along with the spread position they relate to, e.g. ‘What is the root of this issue?’ ‘How will life be different if you resolve this? ‘What action do you need to focus on?’. At this stage their meaning and my interpretation won’t be included. Instead there will be a series of questions to help you engage with the cards, for instance, ‘what feeling do you experience when looking at this card?’ Please send your responses back to me within 36 hours.

3. Once I have received your responses I will prepare your reading bringing together your response to the cards with my interpretation of them. Again there will be questions to help you find an answer that makes sense for you. If anything is unclear, please do let me know.

4. Within 36 hours I will then send a follow up message inviting feedback and this marks the end of our session. However if you would like more support from me around your reading, this may be provided at my discretion. If you are a paying client, I will agree with you any additional fee.
